Amoreiras 360º Panoramic View – spectacular views over Lisbon

For everyone who is not too afraid of heights there is an observation deck in Lisbon you must have been to: the Amoreiras 360º Panoramic View.

The Amoreiras 360º Panorama Deck is part of the Amoreiras shopping centre, where you can find more than 200 shops and 50 restaurants. All very nice of course, but the real attraction is this observation deck at 174 meters high in the sky. This makes it the highest viewpoint in the city.

Things to see

Well, about everything actually. After all, it has a 360 view, doesn’t it? Fortunately, the railing is not too high, giving you beautiful live views over the city. That feeling can’t be compared to for instance Top of the Rock in New York, where you have to view everything through thick glass.

How different things are here in Lisbon. On a beautiful, sunny and hopefully not too windy day you can look for miles in all directions, without glass between you and the views. And believe me, that gives you the opportunity to take the most beautiful panorama photos.

Cristo Rei in the clouds

In my opinion, the highlights of an hour’s sightseeing on this panoramic deck are the unbeatable view of Ponte 25 Abril. I was lucky that on that summer Saturday morning a low hanging cloud cover floated up the Tagus river, partly flanking both the statue of Cristo Rei and the red suspension bridge Ponte de 25 Abril through the fragments of clouds.

Every few seconds the image changed and I saw a new image to to take a picture of. At that time I was there with only one other visitor, a semi-professional photographer who was actually only taking pictures of the bridge with his undoubtedly very expensive zoom lens.

The city from above

Next to the statue of Christ and the bridge, the Castelo de São Jorge stood out of course. Impressive to see this castle in full size without having to look up. Other highlights are the Basílica da Estrela, the airport Humberto Delgado, of course the river Tagus, the Padrão dos Descobrimentos and the striking lines of the aqueduct at the Reservatório da Mãe d’Água, a few hundred meters away.

Shooting, tagging and sharing

Taking pictures is encouraged here. If you put your photos online and tag them with #AMOREIRAS360VIEW, you have a chance they’ll be picked up on the social wall at amoreiras360view.com. You don’t have to write that down now, the hashtag is widely dimensioned on the balustrade.

Search for the elevator

The panoramic deck is located on top of Amoreiras Tower number 2 in the Amoreiras district, not too far from
Marquês de Pombal. You can buy tickets online (skip the line tickets) or in the Amoreiras shopping centre. Access to the elevator that takes you upstairs is on the second floor. When I took the escalator (next to the FNAC store) upstairs it took me a few seconds to see the colored lines with arrows on the floor pointing me in the right direction.
