São Bento – political heart
Just west of the Bairro Alto lies the district São Bento. This neighbourhood is the beating political heart of Portugal. Dominated by Assembleia da República, the parliament of Portugal, housed in Palácio de São Bento from which the district took its name.
São Bento is enclosed between the districts of Amoreiras, Estrela, Príncipe Real and Bairro Alto. The large streets around the district are the main arterial roads as well as through roads. The side streets of the district are quiet, with little traffic because they are only accessible to residents. It is a nice area to walk around in. There are many small restaurants and shops. This neighbourhood attracts a lot of young people and families to live there. In the streets you can see many renovations going on, making all older buildings as new for these young families.
Squares and streets
Praça das FloresI find Praça das Flores an extremely romantic little square. It exudes something I can't get enough of. Every time I come here I take dozens of pictures and often they all look the same, the only difference being that it's a different time of year.
Eating and Drinking
TeaseNothing about Tease is Portuguese, except for the many locals who visit the place and that this café is located in Lisbon. If you've had enough of the Portuguese sweetness but you're in the mood for a cake, Tease is a nice place to go.
NannarellaThe ice cream shop Nannarella opened up shop in the São Bento district in 2013. It doesn't matter when you arrive, there are always locals waiting in line for their turn to order a delicious ice cream.
TerraMost vegetarian restaurants in Lisbon don't serve traditional Portuguese food, but Terra does!
