Restaurante Central is a place where I (and my family) have been coming for years now, and it has never disappointed me. Well, maybe on Thursdays, when I again forget that that’s the only day they are closed.
Restaurante Central is located in Colares, near the beautiful Sintra.
Nice staff
Besides the fact that many local families come to eat at Central, the staff also seems to be one big family. The same people have been around for at least the last 15 years.
Large portions – delicious food
The menu is fairly traditional, with dishes such as secretos, arroz de pato, polvo and bacalhau.
But nowadays there are some vega dishes and you can also order extra vegetables. That is extraordinary, considering vegetables with your dish are usually very scanty in Portugal.
It is difficult to choose form the menu, the last time we went for Bacalhau a Central and the Secretos de Porco Preto. And again we were not disappointed, the food was delicious!
Child friendly
Our then three-year-old daughter is usually very well entertained here. Not only did she get a nice placemat and children’s cutlery, after ordering our food there were colouring books and coloured pencils so she could show off her artistic skills.
Not expensive
Restaurante Central fits well in a low budget holiday. We paid just under 40€ (£35) for a full lunch with the three of us. For that, besides our main courses with a bottle of water and half a liter of house wine we also had dessert and coffee.
If you’re on the way to or from Sintra and you pass by Restaurante Central, stop to enjoy lunch or dinner here.
