Discovering new, surprising places in Lisbon is one of our favourite activities during our trips to this beautiful city. On the edge of the Bairro Alto on the top floor of a parking garage, we discovered an interesting rooftop bar: PARK bar.
As we walked into the parking garage we were a bit excited about what we would find on the seventh floor. Because we had heard that the elevator was small and dirty, and looks like it is falling apart, we took the stairs.
A not so quiet haven of peace
Once upstairs, the entrance is not to be missed. You might expect something more elegant, but behind the plastic sheets there’s a true garden full of plants, trees and wooden garden furniture.
When we were there it was very busy, I can imagine that it is always that busy here.
PARK is a unique place, it offers a 180 degrees view over the city: Ponte 25 Abril, Igreja Santa Caterina, the river Tagus. Especially around sunset this is a beautiful place to be.
In the afternoon it is an ideal place to have a drink, but if you come after eight o’clock PARK slowly transforms into a club and the music coming from the speakers gets louder and louder.
Cocktails
PARK is not a cheap place to have a cocktail in Lisbon, but they are worth it. If you know in advance that you will be enjoying the view in PARK for a longer period of time, you can order a whole lot.
PARK also has the possibility to eat something, they are especially known for their excellent hamburgers. But there are also more traditional dishes like bacalhau (cod) on the menu.
We really enjoyed the view at PARK. We were there after eight when the DJ had already gotten behind the turntables, sending a loud mix of club music through the speakers.
Of course this is very personal but we prefer a view like this and a finely decorated place with a quieter soundtrack. Next time we will definitely come sooner!
Underground
At the beginning of 2018 this roof terrace was still very much underground. But now they’ve become so popular that it’ll probably be mentioned in the new editions of travel guides such as the Time-Out and the Lonely Planet. So you shouldn’t be surprised at the increasing amount of tourists you will meet on this rooftop terrace in the coming years.
