Looking for typical Portuguese food in a typical Portuguese restaurant in the heart of the typical Portuguese Alfama neighbourhood? Then Restaurante O Eurico is the place to go.
This typical Portuguese restaurant fits everyone’s budget: 2 adults, a 3-year old and a baby can have lunch here for less than 20 euros.
In between the locals
Slowly, Restaurante O Eurico is discovered by tourists, especially since this fine restaurant was featured in one of the bigger travel guides. But the majority of the people who come here are Lisboetas. You may be joining some locals at a large table if you go here!
Bigger than you think
If the weather is good and you are lucky, you can get a spot on the small terrace that is full of sun during lunchtime.
Upon entering (through a narrow door) there are some tables where you can sit. Is it full here? Then there is probably a waitress who will (loudly) ask you how many you are. Around the corner of the kitchen is another seating area.
Service with a smile
The service mainly consists of women and they work very hard. Between 12:30 – 15:00 it is pretty busy at Restaurante O Eurico and you can notice that from the waiting staff. Sometimes something goes wrong. With our order they forgot about the Picanha, so we couldn’t eat together. It’s not that bad though if you are traveling with a baby and toddler.
Because of the hard work the waitresses sometimes forget to smile, but don’t be fooled: they are friendly and helpful.
Child friendly
If you come with children and do you have a buggy with you, make sure you can fold it up, a standard buggy won’t fit through the door and the space inside is actually too tight to store a buggy anywhere.
There are high chairs available and the waitresses are very relaxed when there are children at the table.
Low budget
The food is delicious and comes in very large portions. If you are not a big eater, make sure you share a dish with your table companion.
Restaurante O Eurico does not have an extensive menu, in the restaurant there are signs that show you the specialties of the house.
Don’t expect anything fancy or chic about this restaurant, the charm is mainly in that you get in touch with locals.
Disadvantage
There is only one toilet that both ladies and gentlemen use. During lunch there is almost no time to clean the toilet. So it is possible that the toilet is somewhat dirty at the end of the afternoon. There is also no place to change your child..
Advantages
Actually everything mentioned in this article (except for the toilets), and in addition, the location of Restaurante O Eurico is very nice. You can use the restaurant as a break while discovering
Alfama.
Restaurante O Eurico is very close to Escadinhas de São Cristóvão. But also the Elevator Castelo and other sights such as Sé de Lisboa, Castelo de São Jorge and a number ofmiradouros in Alfama are less than 10 minutes walking distance.
