Port Wine or Vinho Do Porto is one of the most famous drinks from Portugal. At IVDP (in full: Instituto Dos Vinhos Do Douro E Do Porto) they have a very wide selection of various older port wines.
Here you can enjoy a delicious glass of port wine, for example from your birth year, knowing that it will taste good.
Classy interior, and what a collection!
This establishment has always been a place of prestige. A few years back it looked a bit faded, with stains on the carpet and worn out couches. It was a bit corny so to speak, just like the service, but well worth a drink of port wine. Nowadays the interior is back up to par, with comfy sofas and exquisitely dimmed lighting.
The menu is huge! Dozens upon dozens of port wines, ranging from branco (white) to various tawny’s. They’ve classified their port wines by year. If you discover you have a favorite and want to drink this at home, then you can get a whole bottle. And all for a surprisingly friendly price. We challenge you to find such decent port wines in Britain for less!
It is also possible to get something to eat here, but I recommend to stick to the drinks here, and then walk down the street to Cervejaria Trindade for some more substantial food.
Getting there with Ascensor da Gloria
IVDP is easy to reach with Ascensor da Gloria. Once you have reached the top you only have to cross the road.
You first enter a courtyard, continue to the glass doors and then enter IVDP.
