Lisbon’s Mysterious Cocktail Bar: Raise a Glass at Speakeasy Corkies

In the Bica neighborhood, tucked away between narrow streets where the famous Bica funicular rattles by, lies one of Lisbon’s best-kept secrets: the speakeasy cocktail bar Corkies. The adventure begins even before you find the bar; we discovered it by navigating the maze of alleyways. Even upon arrival, the entrance remains hard to spot. At first glance, the bar seems closed, but if you look closely and peek around the corner, you’ll notice the open windows and hear soft music coming from a tiny room – no more than 15 to 20 square meters in size.

Smallest Cocktail Bar Visited by We Heart Lisbon
This hidden cocktail bar, Corkies, offers seating for no more than 16 guests, mainly with small tables for two and one table for four. It feels like being invited to an exclusive experience in an intimate space where atmosphere and flavor go hand in hand. This isn’t a bar you simply walk into; ringing the doorbell is the first step. A staff member kindly asks if you have a reservation. If not, sometimes you get lucky, just as we did, and they find a spot for you.

Foggy Monkey and Other Delights on the Menu
Inside, the atmosphere is relaxed yet lively. The staff brings water first, followed by the menu featuring a selection of cocktails that is regularly refreshed. Two creations immediately caught our eye: the Foggy Monkey and the Black Crone. The Foggy Monkey came with a full show; the cocktail was served with a lid, and upon lifting it, a fragrant cloud of smoke escaped, giving the entire experience a mysterious touch. Despite the smoky presentation, the flavor remained pure, soft, and fruity. The Black Crone, with a hint of pineapple, was served in a playful tiki glass and offered a refreshing balance of tropical flavors.

The Perfect Place to Start Your Evening
No one lingers long at Corkies. Guests come in, enjoy one or two carefully crafted cocktails, and then move on to continue their journey through Lisbon. This constant flow keeps the bar dynamic and vibrant. For travelers looking to discover a unique and hidden side of Lisbon, this little speakeasy is an absolute must.
