Chapitô à mesa is Lisbon’s circus school, which may not make you think about one of the most beautiful views of the city. But here it is: almost perched against the walls of Castelo de São Jorge you’ll find Chapitô à mesa.
Chapitô is known for its strong cultural, educational and social roots in the Alfama (and Lisbon) community. You have to come and take a look for yourself to understand this symbiotic relationship.
Restaurant, snack bar and terrace
Chapitô à mesa consists of three catering establishments: Bartô (the bar) which opens at night and often organises alternative theatre and live music performances, the terrace (mostly covered with a circus tent) and the restaurant.
We just had something to drink at here, but we’re told the restaurant is quite excellent. The food is inspired by traditional Portuguese cuisine. We will definitely come back to have lunch.
The view
The view over Alfama and the Tagus is the main reason to go to Chapitô à mesa. But in the middle of Alfama there are many more places to enjoy such a view at a roof terrace, so why this place in particular?
Besides the multicultural environment of a circus and theatre school with catering and the delicious food in the restaurant, there is also a romantic dining area with some of the best views of them all! It is a nice place to be, very laid back.
So, if you want to add a splash of romance to your city trip, book a table here!
