A Tasca do Chico is a fado cafe in the Bairro Alto district. This restaurant, which is actually more of a bar, is very small and is always filled with people, especially on fado nights!
Don’t expect too much from the staff, they are not particularly friendly and usually they’re quite slow. But the caipirinhas here are excellent and the same goes for the fado. It is a popular joint and therefore often pretty crowded.
Caipirinha or Caipirão
If you’ve had enough of the caipirinhas (which we cannot imagine), try a Caipirão for a change; instead of cachaça they add Licor Beirão to this cocktail, which is the Portuguese national liqueur.
And when you fancy something to eat here, don’t expect too much from the menu. They have tapas, but very limited. Think pieces of bread, a couple of cheeses and some cuts of meat. It’s all very simple and plain, but the atmosphere is great and it is affordable.
Discover new talent
A Tasca do Chico mainly offers a stage for the beginning fado artists, do not expect you only young artists. It could be that a grandmother looking lady takes the stage and lets the whole cafe dream away for the fado sounds of the guitar and her singing.
Fado is only played here on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9 p.m.. Be there early if you want a chance to get in!
